Shadows were moving around her; I couldn’t see them but she did
Remembering the time unlived, she knew what she would miss
She watched the memories unveil while the future became dust
Like that horizon you can see but cannot reach, no matter how hard you swim
She swam. One arm after the other; breathe in, hold it in, and hold on
She swam across the salty bitterness of saying goodbye
Ever tired, she couldn’t reach the shore
There was no shore. Only cold, thin air.
As her father had taught her, she faced the sun and let herself go
Meadows of colored dust appeared and suddenly she felt at ease
She just wishedI could come too; wished she could’ve stayed a little longer.
She could still feel the fire of my piercing gaze that vehemently refused to reason
The nails, now piercing through the costume hurt and stained it red
Let go, let go, let go, she said. But no one heard.
A stab in the chest told her communication was lost for good
If only she could show me the coast of diamonds and the black ever-ending sea
All filled with precious stones that make you feel so adequate
As if you had been in the wrong place all along and had finally sailed home.
The nails, piercing as hard as ever, took her out of oblivion and back to the event
She could still notice the tickling moisture on her hands and cheeks
She didn’t feel but she remembered, while she sadly watched the scene
Come back, come back, come back, I begged. But it was too late.

I will always miss you, I will always love you.

On January 2013 Ady and I did a road trip from New York to Montreal. This is the published piece I wrote (in Spanish) of our experience, and what we thought were the “must dos” along the way.
